![]() ![]() “I could see that the business model that newspapers were operating under in the mid- to late-’90s was failing the profession,” she said. “I liken it to getting as close as I ever want to come to a divorce. “Journalism was a calling for me, so when I decided to leave, it was a very tough choice,” said Corgan. Prior to starting at UA’s School of Law, she was a staff writer at the Tribune Chronicle in Warren and the assistant city editor, and later the weekend editor at The Times-Reporter in New Philadelphia. During graduate school, she completed an internship at The Buffalo News in upstate New York. She spent the next year reporting for the Medina Gazette, before enrolling at Kent State University where she obtained a master’s degree in journalism in 1990. After graduating from Field High School in Brimfield, Ohio, she earned her bachelor’s degree in mass media communication from The University of Akron. She’s a very good attorney and we work well together.” A native of Portage County, Ohio, Corgan was a journalist for many years before attending law school. “I had been encouraging my wife to come over whenever she felt she was ready to leave the prosecutor’s office,” said Bill. “It’s been a great experience working with Jack, who I’ve known for a long time, and attorney Natalie Niese, who I also knew. “We have worked together in the past and now we are collaborating once again.” “I moved my office to this firm in August 2021,” said Weisensell, Mastrantonio & Niese attorney Bill Corgan. “I’m also excited to work alongside my husband Bill again,” said Corgan. “While I am terribly grateful for the chance that I had to serve the people of Summit County in the prosecutor’s office, I am very happy to return to private practice, where I can assist one client at a time,” said Corgan. ![]() “It’s a much different pace and I am doing a variety of things here, including handling employment law cases and representing plaintiffs in personal injury and other complex matters. Her husband Bill joined us almost two years ago and we had been in discussions with Jacqi, who recently decided it was the right time to make the move.” “It’s been an interesting change,” Corgan said. “We’ve been looking to grow the firm to where we were ever since, so we are always on the lookout for competent attorneys like Jacqi. ![]() “But then Chris Niekamp left to join Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs and took several lawyers with him and Steve Mutersbaugh went over to Jackson Kelly in 2021 as well. “Prior to January 2021, we had about a dozen lawyers at the firm,” said Weisensell. “We are always looking to bring in well-qualified lawyers and Jacqi’s experience and personality make her a great fit for our firm. “We are excited to welcome Jacqi Corgan to our firm,” said Managing Partner Jack Weisensell. Corgan started at the business law and litigation firm on May 30, after working in the appellate division of the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office since 2018. Weisensell, Mastrantonio & Niese adds another seasoned attorneyĪ former assistant county prosecutor recently joined Akron-based Weisensell, Mastrantonio & Niese.
